First year here. Worked late on a deal, so went to sleep super late and woke up later than usual. When I logged in around 10:30 this morning, I saw a senior for a different deal wanted me to do something ASAP at like 9:30. He emailed/ called a few times. Eventually, he did it himself. Easy task, but annoying stuff that I have been handling. I apologized over email and briefly called, but he seems very unhappy (was brief and dismissive over the phone). Do I try and explain the situation and why I was unavailable?? Or is that too much of an explanation?? This is a respected senior and has the ears of one of the partners I work under for many of my deals.
Also, any tips for the future to avoid this kind of situations? Like, I really could not have known I would be needed that early, but also it’s after 9 so I should have been available (on the other hand, my other deals with other teams require me sometimes to work super late when it’s around closing)….and I’m not sure how to manage/communicate?!?!?
