A UChicago associate I was interviewing told me, unprompted, that his favorite case was Dred Scott, because he was “fascinated by Roger Taney’s jurisprudence.” This was 3 minutes into the interview. I wasn’t sure what to make of this, so I thanked him for his time and asked him to leave.
Turns out his uncle is the CEO of a major client, so we had to hire him. He’s been assigned to several of my matters, and has cited to Korematsu on every brief.
