Being "on top" of deals

Transactional lawyer here - does anyone else feel like being "on top" of their deals is actually really hard? Partners make it sound so simple in practice because it's mechanical and really a matter of triaging.

On a big transaction that's moving quickly it's like preparing for an exam where I have to memorise the answers to 100 questions, except the answers change every hour and I'm studying for 5 different exams at the same time.

I've tried pulling up internal checklists and the leaving open items in inbox trick, nothing seems to stick...
