Keeping us in the dark about whether they plan to match later in the year has been a little shady. I think we’ve all gotten a little too comfortable with this, and firms are going to give us what we’ll accept. If there’s no consequence for waiting six months to match without paying the difference retroactively, they’re going to keep doing it. We should at least track it, let summer associates know, and let the rankings fall where they may.
Anyone responding that we should be lucky to have this job, I’m just going to assume you’re a partner. In any case, there is nothing contradictory about being grateful for this job and wanting your firm to match promptly or at least give us an explanation as to why it hasn’t and help us understand.
If it’s to be cautious given the developments with AI, then at least tell us. I’d like that a lot more than rumors that we’re waiting for Cravath. I’m not worried about Cravath. Cravath is 100% going to move and match retroactively.
