About to start a biglaw job, and this sub is scaring the crap out of me regarding the assumption that I remain available. Over the course of the next year, I have a few events where I will be genuinely unavailable: my soon-to-be sister-in-law's wedding eve and day, my own wedding eve and day, one pre-scheduled commitment on a friday night from 6pm onwards when I know for sure I will not have cell service until the next morning, and one marathon that I've signed up for. My question: if I communicate these things in advance, and am honest about their (in my opinion, reasonable) duration when telling my colleagues about them, will they be problematic? I've heard that one's own wedding is kind of the only time where one can be sure they won't be bothered, but I'm wondering if that's an exaggeration/if I won't be bothered so long as the unavailability is reasonable and legitimate.
