Done with BL and NYC, ready to move back upstate.

6th year M&A associate focused primarily on healthcare transactions. I’m on track and well-liked in my group, but generally ready to leave BigLaw - totally burnt out and fed up with the constant fire drills. I’ve reached my financial goals and am ready for a lifestyle change that includes moving closing to family upstate. I still want to practice transactional law, but don’t want or need to do it all this level anymore. I don’t expect to make anywhere close to the same income, but I’m debt free and can buy a house cash in the area I’m looking to relocate to, so I’m prepared to take a haircut and still be comfortable in a much lower COL area.

Does anyone here have any experience with the regional firms in the upstate market? There appears to be several decent sized AmLaw 200 firms, but I’m unfamiliar with their reputation and actual people. Anyone know anything or have any experience with firms like Harris Beach, Hodgson Russ, Philips Lytle, Barclay Damon, Bond Schoeneck and King? What about Nixon Peabody in Rochester or GT’s Albany office?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
