I’m a 1L (KJD so early 20’s) from a very low-income background (below federal poverty line). My parents have always worked factory jobs and at one point we didn’t have stable housing.
I worked my way into a full-tuition scholarship at a T14 and recently got a BigLaw offer for my 2L summer. I’m grateful and motivated, but I didn’t grow up around money and don’t really know how to build wealth the right way.
For people who have done it or understand personal finance, what should I focus on now as a 1L, and what should I be ready for once I start earning? How do people actually build long-term wealth from a background like mine?
Edit: thank you for all the helpful comments! I super appreciate it. I’ve had a couple being a little crass and telling me I won’t be able to do it. Which I’d say is disheartening but it’s not. I’ve been told that I’m unrealistic and delusional before I set any goal. If I fail than so be it but at least I tried. Thank you all again :)
