I am a new junior at a V10 and I am really struggling. I am doing cap markets and M&A and for three weeks now I have billed over 70 hours of client work. I have been up every night and working every weekend since I started. I am drowning but the worst part is I feel like I have no support.
The hours are horrendous but I knew going into it that this is part of the job. But at only 7 weeks into this career, what I don’t get is why no one seems to understand that I’m new to this.
I have had three different seniors tell me to diligence the target and write a diligence memo without explaining almost anything about what that actually entails. They seem annoyed when I have questions, or just don’t answer them, and I feel like they expect me to have been born knowing how to do corporate law. Or they just tell me to tell Harvey to do it. But how can I check Harvey’s output if I don’t understand the input?
Is this the norm? How do I find mentorship, or at the very least, how can I teach myself so that this starts to be less painful? I am starting to think that I am not cut out for this …
