I paid off my loans! (First year) What now?

I don’t have many people to share this goood news with (because a lot of my friends still have loans or didn’t have loans to begin with) but I’m DONE! I feel so free and light.

I told myself I would be doing big law until I paid off my loans within two years (that was my timeline for myself). Now that I’ve been able to pay it off much sooner than expected, I’m trying to reassess what I should be doing. Should I be just trying to save up? I don’t enjoy the work I’m doing & the people I work with just look…tired and sometimes angry. I don’t think any place would take me serious as a lateral being a first year but I also can’t see myself doing big law either. I wanted to do government work going into law school but not this government. Ultimately what I’m asking is, what would you do if you paid off all of your student debt? Would you stay?

I wanted to work in PI & ultimately later down the road teach? Or even go in house. Is that something that’s realistic without getting a PhD or getting lots of experience in big law first? I’m placed in M&A (didn’t want to do this) and everyone at the firm talks about not leaving before atleast 3 years because no one will take you serious.
