At this point, I think I would go to another firm solely on the basis that they use MacBooks. Do such firms exist?
Yes, I am aware of the common refrain that the slowness is due to security software and bloat.
No, this is not the whole story. Even computers with bloat can be optimized, especially since the hardware is decent. IT could do much more to make these run well. I can't tell if IT has other priorities, is disincentivized from doing this (e.g., the more billable hours myth), or is just incompetent.
Either way, I'm fucking sick of the hangs, the lagging, the crashes, the slowness, the stupid fans at high speed, the steaming hot bottom surface, the over-restrictive security policies. Such crap and it's the year 2026. Losing minutes of my life waiting for this fucking computer that's doing nothing more than running MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, and a web browser.
We (as a profession) need to stop making excuses for this bullshit.
