It finally happened

Whelp, after 12 years I found out last week that I’ll be a partner on Jan 1. I graduated in the bottom 10 people from a law school regularly ranked in the 50-100 range. I didn’t have a job after graduation and had to basically take a temp job in compliance at a bank. I busted my ass and learned a ton on the business side and was able to leverage that into a top 50 firm and managed to really excel in my group. From where I started, I never thought this was a possibility.

I’ve been chasing this for so long and now that it’s here, my second thought (after happiness/relief) was literally “so that’s it? What’s next?” I was listless and totally unmotivated since finding out but today I got excited by the possibility of having a life again, learning new things and spending more time with my family.

So, did anyone else feel unmotivated/listless after making partner?

What are the chances that I’ll actually be able to have a life again?
