I like the firm, hit hours (unless my time was reduced and wasn’t told), and had been getting increasing responsibilities.
was told I’m not advancing to the next year. The group is not giant, so although I think I can improve, I’m not sure how difficult it will be to change people’s perceptions of me. Should I lateral? Goal is to stay in biglaw as long as possible and, all else equal, would rather switch firms at year 6 or 7 than now if promotion isn’t possible.
Edit: I was told in the review that “pausing” associates is more common in this group than others, and I asked a bunch of ways “are you subtly suggesting I should leave,” and they said no. So I agree that the instinct should be to leave but idk.
