My Fiance and I have been together for 5 years. The past three years we have done long distance as he matched for residency in a small southern city and I was starting my career in a big east coast BL city. He decided he wanted to specialize further so he applied for fellowships and matched in another city with absolutely no BL firms. It’s a 3 year fellowship and neither of us are ok continuing long distance. After those 3 years he will be able to work from anywhere/we can move anywhere.
I’m a mid-level and am planning on bringing it up to the firm this year to see if they can make any remote accommodations for the next 2-3 years. In the event they don’t grant those accommodations I’m honestly not sure what to do. My whole life I’ve prioritized school and then my career, so the thought of potentially sacrificing part of that success for a relationship is so foreign to me. But also I would feel silly losing such an amazing relationship for a job. For what it’s worth once he’s done with fellowship he’ll be making around $400k give or take but during fellowship around 70k so I’d still need to find a job.
Not going to give more details for fear of being ID’d but am happy to dm if anyone has questions or has been in a similar situation… any advice is super appreciated!
