Rant: Being known as the hard worker sucks!

The title.

I’m a people pleaser and have difficulties saying ‘no.’ I ended up pulling all nighters and cancelling the vast majority of my weekend plans just to stay available for my team. I know I also did good, if not excellent, substantive work based on the feedback from my mid levels and seniors. However, all of that was overshadowed by my responsiveness and sheer willingness to grind, such that I am now pretty much known as ‘the hard worker’ in my group.

The reward? Seniors would ‘reserve’ me for abusive partners, needy clients and messy matters, while my classmates who are regularly unavailable during nights and weekends get to be staffed on matters with reasonable timelines, which also tend to be more important and interesting matters.

I regret everyday for being the one who’s ‘always there when shit happens’. People just start taking me for granted and having me handle all the shit, while my coworkers attend fancy closing dinners.

Rant over.
