First year in a NYC V10 M&A group. Ever since the primary deal I’ve been on has heated up, I feel like my seniors have expected me to literally be able to predict the future, know things that I could not possibly know, or control how other people do things.
A few examples. A few weeks ago, we had a pretty important call that involved some of our specialists. The other junior on the deal had the responsibility of sending out invites to the appropriate specialist teams. The call comes, and the junior missed a team that needed to be on (I caught this beforehand and frantically rushed to get them on). While on mute (with the other junior present), the senior asks why I didn’t make sure the correct people got invites.
There will also be moments where I get asked whether I’ve responded to emails on a chain I’m not CC’d on, or saying I’ve missed items on a checklist when said items come in the 30 minutes between me sending said checklist and them opening it.
The worst part however is that when my work is reviewed, if there are still things missing, I get all of the heat from the people more senior whereas my reviewers receive none, despite the fact I’ve literally never handled these documents before.
How the fuck do I not go insane?
