Tattoos in Big Law

I had a partner recently reach out to me about an associate I placed for him complaining that they had a tattoo and it was “unprofessional”.

I had no idea the associate had one, nor did I give a shit because who cares?

Apparently this partner.

Associate always had it covered while litigating or with clients and after speaking with the associate, I found out it was a sleeve from elbow to just above the wrist.

Associate wore a short sleeve Polo for a golf outing with the partner and apparently partner had a fit regarding the tattoo.

Now I’m getting chewed out by the partner for not “doing enough due diligence”

I haven’t been in this gig long but this seems like a gross overreaction to an otherwise mundane issue. Am I in the wrong here?
