Need to feel like I’m not alone, although I hope none of this happens to you.
I once told a partner that I would be out to attend the funeral of a family member who suddenly died at a young-ish age with kids. We had a deadline, which was more than a week out, but I expressed I would do whatever I can in advance.
The partner said, “I’m sorry for your loss. Are you going to be out the full day?”
Their reaction completely changed how I approach this job. I’m not going to sacrifice meaningful, important time with family, who would do anything for me, because you, who doesn’t don’t give a damn about me, can’t figure out alternate support for one day. We are meaningless to each other.
What are your best/worst stories of people not giving a damn about you?
