Came across a thread of these on X and it made me want to laugh at some more. So, what’s the dumbest thing you’ve been yelled at for?
When I was a junior, I was handling some simple ongoing client thing on my own - largely just collecting signatures from the client and adding them to the docs they needed to go on. Client about an hour before COB asks us about some signature they didn’t actually need but that they were expecting us to obtain - news to me. Client called me and we figured it out.
Partner gets in a tizzy seeing that email and asks what the client is talking about. I reply that the client had called me and I was confused at first too but we got it figured out.
Partner decides that I meant I had gotten a call, not known what to do, and sat on that for days without asking anyone. When I explain that in fact I meant I had spoken to client minutes prior to this email, I got rapid fire angry emails explaining how this isn’t hard and I should know how to do this and so on so forth.
I try to take the middle ground and just apologize for any inconvenience but that it’s taken care of. Which turns into a discussion of how this is a learning moment (it wasn’t).
