Whats with partners and taking unannounced PTO?

Sorry this will be a rant but I’m so frustrated I can’t even hold it in any longer. I’m so close to just going off on the partners.

They always push for more and more billing and give stories about how they always work on vacation and never fully take time off and how associates need to be like that. Got us giving weeks of advance notice for PTO so everyone knows the schedule and can plan ahead.

But you have a court deadline or something really important coming up on a project and they just go MIA on vacation. Never mentioned they’d be out, don’t answer emails or phone calls, too busy with the family. And you’re there doing literally all the work getting things ready to be filed or completed and can’t move things along cause they just abruptly disappeared on vacation. And then they rear their heads last minute saying they have comments without even knowing wtf even happened the last week to two weeks to get there, throwing everything off with comments that don’t even make sense cause they don’t know the project that well, and then they return to oblivion not answering calls or texts or anything. The only contribution is literally to engage for a few minutes to F stuff up and leave.

How are these types of partners not embarassed? How do you just disappear and not give a F about court deadlines and stuff and then turn to it last minute. Just upending everyone else’s schedule without notice or anything.

And the whole narrative about we’re all so busy we gotta watch out how we take time off but I guess it doesn’t apply if you’re a partner and just disappear for multiple days without answering any contacts at all.

I swear if an associate did half the ish some of these partners do, they’d be fired for being disrespectful, insubordinate, and bad performance. Imagine an associate not engaging on a project for over a week and taking time off unannounced leading up to when it’s due and answering barely anything.
