Hi all, I'm a 4th year midlevel in lit and regulatory. Hate my current firm because of backstabbing and politics among associates, as well as getting no mentorship from senior lawyers despite good reviews. I also suspect my firm PIPs people around my year. Anyway I'm weighing two options now:
Part of me is also burned out from BL but alas I only got BL offers. No golden handcuffs, I've had solid savings and no debt.
For background: for the past 5-6 months I interviewed with a bunch of boutique firms but did not find a fit, and none of them seemed like one of those famed 1600 billable/lifestyle firms. Long-term I do want to work in house in compliance and regulatory (my preference is I do not work as litigation counsel, because I do not particularly like litigating or managing cases).
For various reasons I cannot work in federal/state government so I didn't even apply. It’s also possible/wont break the bank for me to find a nonprofit legal job, but I don’t enjoy working only on one narrow issue area. I tried looking in house but got no offers. Market seems bad.
I know this is a personal decision but would love to hear strangers’ takes to see if I missed anything and get a new perspective.
Edit: I'm risking a PIP because my hours are low and my group is doling out warnings. I should still have a few months but no more than that if I stay.
