I’ve been letting all the partners I work with know that I’ll be going on maternity leave, and the first thing almost every single one asks is, “Are you taking the full leave?”
And honestly… why wouldn’t I? 😂
If I’m entitled to fully paid maternity leave, why would I voluntarily cut it short? I genuinely don’t understand why this seems to be such a surprising question.
Is this a normal thing to ask someone who’s going on maternity leave? Or is there some unspoken expectation that you’re supposed to come back early to show you’re “committed” to your job?
Would love to hear other people’s experiences with this.
